Denis Burrows has been involved with CMAC since it was formed in 1959. His father, Stanley Burrows, was one of the principals when the club first saw the light of day all those years ago. At that time Denis was already messing around with control line aeroplanes and his AUS (VH) number (3165) reflects his long association with the sport.
Denis assumed the Presidency of the club in 1975 and continued in that post until 1983.Whilst retaining his membership, other interests essential to the upkeep of his family saw his long association with the club diminish for a few years. Following a full-time return to the fold, he was elected Vice-President in 1987, a position which he retained until 1992. He was appointed to the position of Treasurer in that year following the resignation of Bill Edwards for health reasons after Bill had held that office for 26 years. Denis relinquished the mantle of Treasurer in 2004.
To this day, Denis continues to exhibit some of the traits of an "old time" modeller and his field box does not bristle with all of the fancy bits and pieces regarded by some as essential gear. The fact that he cut his teeth in the halcyon days of control line is reflected in his theory that it is not necessary to use an electric starter to coax a well-tuned engine into life. Despite that outlook, he still claims ownership of all of his fingers and thumbs.
Denis Burrows is a true stalwart of CMAC and can be relied upon to put his shoulder to the wheel whenever the need arises to "do your bit" in the interests of the club.
