Aerial Photography

This section of the Gallery is the result of a recurring effort at CMAC to develop a stable camera platform and take aerial photographs. You'll have to admit that the results are pretty good. This is a continuing project, so check for updates regularly.

March, 2001

The following pictures, taken from Allan Whitby's Acrostar, are quite amazing. Unfortunately, the scans do not do justice to the originals, nor can we show every picture although more will be added over time.

Photo by Allan Whitby The CMAC strip facing west (roughly). You can see the flightline quite clearly. That's Allan standing on the strip (usually a big no-no for safety reasons) to help with aiming.
Photo by Allan Whitby The opposite direction. To minimise propeller blur, the pictures were taken at full throttle, which makes the 'window of opportunity' very small indeed!
Photo by Allan Whitby Oblique across the eastern end of the strip, again pointed at the flightline.
Photo by Allan Whitby Directly across the strip. On the larger image (click the thumbnail), you can see the shelter shed behind and to the right of the flightline, surrounded by sheoak trees.
Photo by Allan Whitby The camera installation used for the above photographs.

Date unknown

The following pictures were taken from Allan Whitby's Chipmunk (since deceased).

Photo by Allan Whitby CMAC's airstrip (lower right), flight line and pit area (upper right) and carpark (upper centre).
Photo by Allan Whitby Looking across the strip into the flight line and pit area with the car park behind.
Photo by Allan Whitby Another shot across the strip toward the flightline and pit area. The grass patch at the left lower edge of the strip is a grass strip abandoned due to constant vandalism.
Photo by Allan Whitby A camera installation similar to the one used for the above photographs.
